After 3 games, it was a case of 4th time lucky for Jaguars, who recorded their first win and clean sheet of the season in their BYDL division 2 game versus Maidenhead Missiles. Going into the game we knew we always had a chance in this one but you never know, all the games in this division seem hotly contested with talented players in all the teams we've met so far.
In the first half Jaguars looked pretty comfortable restricting Maindenhead to very few chances. The deadlook was broken midway through the half with a beautiful long range effort from Logan that dipped below the crossbar. Playing as a CF after last season being mainly a LW, he's certainly adapted well to the new role and enjoys causing havoc amongst the opposition defenders. 3 goals in 3 games for him so far, on track to match his 35 goals from last season! Maidenhead were put through which is always a risk with the high defensive line we typically play however the pace of Maurice and Ayyub are always great insurance and they're rarely beaten in a straight sprint.
Second half Maidenhead really started to go for it which left gaps as the back as they switched to a 2 man defence on the attack leaving 6 in midfield and up front. Despite this we weathered it well especially with Aidan playing as DM in front of the back 3 providing a great shield and initiating an umber of counter attacks. In the end patience paid off and yet another 'worldie' arrived from Vyan, who just inside his own half chipped the keeper for his first goal of the season for which he looked delighted. This is our second season on 9 aside pitches and with another year of growth the boys look stronger and able to take more long shots with the extra power.
The final icing on the cake which put the game to bed was from an Aidan corner kicking down the hill. This time we put the set play book aside and went for a conventional low hard corner that found it's way through the 6yd area and into the net at the back post. At this point the game was dead and buried.
