Wokingham Town kick off new season with an away win at Holyport.

Harry McBain30 Jul - 13:15

Read the match report below from our trip to Holyport on Tuesday 29th July.

Our 2025/26 season got off to the perfect start with an away victory against Holyport FC, beating the Summerleaze side 1-5 in front of an excited crowd.

Sumas goals from Ty Moorcroft, Monay Mills-Chandler, Sean Moore and Sam Green led us to victory, after initially going a goal behind to the hosts.

The game started energetically with both sides having spells on the ball but with more chances being created by the Wokingham XI, wearing the iconic blue away kit sponsored by A1 Group.

Holyport took the lead in the 16th minute however, with a curled low-driven shot into the bottom corner just beating Emilio Fantocchio.

Following chances from Dontae Hamblin and Sam Green, there were appeals for a penalty as Ty Moorcroft went down in the box, however the referee deemed there to be no foul.

In the aftermath of this decision Connor Richardson was sin-binned and faced 10 minutes on the sidelines, putting Wokingham down to 10 men.

The Sumas fought on though, with a Dan Harris freekick launching the ball towards goal allowing Ty Moorcroft to score from close range, bringing the scores level.

Two minutes later, Mills-Chandler lofted an effort from distance and lobbed the keeper to score a spectacular goal, before going to celebrate with a set of cartwheels and backflips.

Just before the break Holyport’s Number 6 was sent off for a challenge on Moorcroft as he broke through on goal after beating the last man.

HALF TIME – HOLYPORT 1-2 WOKINGHAM TOWN

With the second-half underway, Wokingham’s fight continued as Ty Moorcroft broke through on goal and netted his second of the game to make the score 1-3.

As Wokingham dominated play you could sense another goal was coming and after a diving header Sean Moore claimed his first goal of the season, with his own set of acrobatic celebrations done to mark the occasion.

Following a substitution in the 70th minute as Ed Port replaced Connor Richardson, Holyport were reduced to nine men as their Number 16 was sent for an early shower after punching Kyle Moorcroft.

Just as the match seemed over, Wokingham scored again with Sam Green lurking in the box to grab a headed goal, securing our fifth goal of the match and sealing the three points.
