Our FA Cup journey kicked off on Friday as Wokingham Town faced Brislington FC in the Extra Preliminary Round at Lowther Road, winning 3-2 thanks to a last minute winner.
A brace from Ty Moorcroft as well as a 90th minute goal from Sean Moore saw the Sumas progress to the next round of the competition.
In front of a crowd of 366 (316 adults and 50 kids) Lowther Road was rocking with tinfoil FA Cups and orange shirts surrounding the pitch the cheer the team on.
Wokingham started fast and within four minutes Ty Moorcroft opened the scoring, slotting a shot past the keep from inside the area, before pulling off his trademark acrobatic celebration.
Brislington, not prepared to be walked over however, scored a stunning strike as Jay Malpas curled a shot into the top corner on the 19 minute mark.
After dominating play for the majority of the first half, Wokingham regained the lead again through Moorcroft with a great finish on the half volley, leading to loud celebrations in the bright orange B&Q Stand.
In the 36th minute, Brislington’s number two Ben Withey entered the book, being cautioned by the referee.
HALF TIME – WOKINGHAM TOWN 2-1 BRISLINGTON
The second half saw the large crowd at Lowther gather back around the barriers, awaiting a tough second half with Brislington bound to come out fighting.
The visitors started brightly, putting Wokingham under pressure to retain their lead and three minutes into the second half Dontae Hamblin received a yellow card.
Cameron Miller made his Lowther Road return as he came on to replace Sam Martin in the 55th minute in midfield.
As the clock hit the 67th minute Brislington scored again to level the scoring, with Oaklan Buck netting the equaliser with a low curling shot.
Wokingham later preceded to make two changes with Ed Port and Jack Mullan both entering play to replace Dontae Hamblin and Monay Mills-Chandler.
The Sumas hard work paid off late on as Sean Moore was fed through on goal and netted at the near post in the 90th minute to give Wokingham a late lead.
Moore netted again in added time after a fast counter-attack, however the referee deemed a foul in the build-up and disallowed the smooth finish.
Finally after a lengthy spell of stoppage time, the final whistle rang out to cheers from all around Lowther Road as we secured the win and booked our place in the next round.
